ATLANTIC WALL BELGIUM - Luc Verpoest

During the Second World War the Belgian North Sea coast - about 67 km long and almost fully straight-lined was initially defended by both the 15th army (AOK 15) and the 88th army corps (LXXXVIII AK), under the command of von Rundstedt, Oberbefehlshaber West, also in command of the 7th army. The 15th army covered a large territory from Le Havre to the Westerschelde in the Netherlands. From 1942 on, the defense of the eastern part, from Blankenberge to the Westerschelde, was commended to a separate 89th army corps (AK LXXXIX), still under the command of the 15th army and von Rundstedt.
